Born the sixth of eight children in Gentilly, a working-class neighborhood in New Orleans, family and service for others was ingrained in me at an early age.

My desire to serve and appetite for learning were fed and satisfied through the law and legal profession. My formal education by Brother Martin High School, Louisiana State University and Loyola University, College of Law added to the foundation laid early in my life.

In our busy household, my mother, Geraldine James Calogero, was a prolific homemaker and parent, staying home to raise 8 children born within a 10 year age span.

She lived to serve her family and, from a very young age, I also felt the call to serve my family. I tried to help my mother as much as possible, including mopping the floor while still a baby in diapers.

My father, Pascal F. Calogero Jr., was called to serve the public. He served as JAG Office, an attorney in private practice and finally in public service in the state's judiciary. He served over 36 years on the Louisiana Supreme Court, including the role as Chief Justice.

His personal and professional integrity taught me a great deal about true service and inspired many others throughout his career. His legacy will continue to inspire others as the Louisiana Supreme Court Building now bears his name.
