JANSEN VALK THOMPSON REAHM PC spun-off from Ernst &Young LLP on August 1, 1994. As part of that spin-off, E&Y transferred the opportunity to serve certain clients to Bob Jansen, then a partner with the E&Y firm. Bob started the firm with a core of experienced E&Y professionals who joined him as part of the spin-off.

In 1994, the firm's founding Principals included CPAs Robert L. Jansen and James R. Valk. In October 1998, Nancy L. Thompson, CPA joined the firm and in September 2000 Richard C. Reahm, CPA joined the firm, both as Principals.
